Day 59 | Orange

With the World Champioships of Soccer around the corner a lot of Dutch people think they have to make everything orange… Whole neighborhoods are working together (good thing) to put up anything orange wherever they can (less good). We cycled through this street and the noise from the little flags waving in the wind was a lot louder than I expected. I think some people will have trouble sleeping when it’s 4 Beaufort… This year they apparantly thought of something new.. Get orange plastic shrinkwrap.. I like it on the streetlights, not so on the trees and “amsterdammertjes”. They shrinkwrapped trees… I’m not sure how good or bad that is for a tree, we’ll see when it comes off. That’s another of those things, it’s all cheap plastic, it breaks fast and ends up on the street. Probably before it all starts, 50% will be broken. Nobody cleans it up and it blows into the forest or dunes. More garbage.. Just because some people have to kick a ball for a few weeks… Good thing is that everyone seems to be working together though.
