The last couple of days our van had been leaking steering fluid, but I had too many shoots planned to bring it to the shop. So I filled it up a few times and kept driving. Yesterday’s shoot got cancelled so I took the opportunity to take it to Erik at the Roll Inn Garage. I have known him for about 14 years or so, and he always manages to fix my way too old cars. Erik is a great guy and a very well known figure in the Dutch surfing scene. A classic longboarder with some good results in the Dutch competitions. I thought Erik would be great for today’s post. After having picked up the van this morning I returned some time later after a meeting. I found Erik in the back of the showroom working on a old 2 liter VW van engine. These days those parts are hard to come by and he has to rebuild it part for part. It was great seeing him work on that engine, great music coming from the speakers with some beautiful classic cars in the shop. A man in his element. While we were talking I shot some pictures, and this is my pick.
BTW,
After having to give Koen his camera back yesterday, I was left with my old (and apparantly not so trusty) Nikon D70. After having made about 25 shots I got an error and al my pics were gone! I quickly reformatted the card and it worked again. I shot some more pics and took out the card. Later today that happened again with another card. So until I get my D300 back it will be quite exciting at the end of the day to see if I have any pictures to show..
Shot available light with a Nikon D70 and a 50mm 1.4

Makes me think of Vicente with his garage near the border. Those guys have a certain duende for their work. Wish everybody has that. Well you do anyway!
Camera met – of zonder kuren. De foto is weer heel mooi. Erik is erg geconcentreerd en dat heb je heel goed ‘gevangen’.
